MAP Parent Letter November 2024
The DeKalb County School District (DCSD) administers the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) to students in grades K-10 three times during a school year—Fall, Winter, and Spring.

The DeKalb County School District has set the Fall MAP testing window to open on Monday, November 11, 2024, and close on Tuesday, November 19, 2024.  Your child’s school will communicate the specific dates and times when the Fall MAP will be administered during the testing window.

MAP Growth tests from NWEA® are adaptive tests that are administered electronically. This means the test questions will become more difficult when your child answers a question correctly and easier when your child answers a question incorrectly.  The information presented on the test is aligned with the Georgia Department of Education curriculum and is the same information that your child should have already been exposed to in school.

CGMS Volunteer Information
Volunteering is an important part of your child’s education. Volunteers can be parents, grandparents or interested community members.

Volunteers make a difference in our students’ lives and play an invaluable role in their education and development. Students’ behaviors improve drastically when they know their parents or other interested parties are a part of the school.

Volunteering can occur in various capacities throughout the school year.

CGMS Cell Phone Policy
Cedar Grove Middle School Cell Phone Policy Guidelines & Agreement Teaching students to use technology safely and appropriately continues to be part of everyday learning; however, cell phones have proven to be a distraction in the classroom and detrimental to the learning environment. We are actively working to maintain the physical and mental health of our students, which has led to our Cell Phone Agreement.

This agreement was created with the consideration of students, staff, and parents and with student learning at the forefront. Given current research and data, we believe that having phones placed in cell phone pouches, so that the phone is physically off the students, is best practice.

Mission & Vision

The vision of the DeKalb County School District is to inspire our community of learners to achieve educational excellence. Our mission is to ensure student success, leading to higher education, work, and life-long learning. We are making this vision and mission a reality – every day, in every classroom throughout the District.

Through community forums, focus groups, listening sessions, and more, we have engaged our stakeholders, refined our objectives, honed our procedures, and formulated a robust, highly-structured yet agile and adaptive strategic plan. We are pleased with the progress we have made thus far, and excited about the future – of our District, our community, and, most importantly, the 100,000+ students who daily bring to us their limitless potential.

The District has created performance measures, targets, and initiatives to ensure success in each goal area. A monitoring and data collection process has been developed, and rigorous progress check procedures have been implemented. At the local level, on-going training sessions are offered to all principals in order to support the work of aligning, refining, monitoring, and evaluating the continuous improvement efforts of each individual school.

As a community of learners, we are committed to excellence in everything we do – within the classroom and throughout the District. This continuous improvement process permeates each aspect of our Strategic Plan, and we are honored to partner with you to make it a reality for all.
